The Grand Line with all of the Islands |
Players will maneuver around the board as they try to complete objectives.
The Cards:
There are three different card decks in the game.
Character cards are the different characters in the world of One Piece. Each character has different abilities, strengths and weaknesses. These abilities range from improving combat to allowing to draw more than one card and things like that. The abilities are set up into Main Abilities and Normal Abilities. The first character that a players draws will be the player's MAIN character. This is the persona that the player will use for the remainder of the game. a player's MAIN character has access to both the Mian Abilities and Normal Abilities. All other characters picked up in the game will only be able to use their Normal Abilities. All characters are given Health Points (HP). Characters with strong abilities my have lower HP counts where as characters with weaker or more situational abilities may have higher HP.
Deck cards are cards that are used in every aspect of the game. They will be the deck that is drawn from every round that will grant different things. Deck cards consist of:
Equip cards: cards that are added to characters to give them new stats and abilities.
Field cards: cards that augment a players field and are activated upon certain conditions (such as being attacked or attacking someone)
Single use cards: cards that are played to yourself, the group, or just another player. (range from allowing the drawing of more cards to helping/hurting the other players.
Lastly there are Mission cards. Mission cards are placed in the locations of their corresponding island. Mission cards are drawn and played at the end of a players turn. A player must attempt the action of the Mission card once it is drawn. If the player passes then they will receive rewards and either Pirate or Marine points.

The DVDs and online access codes will allow for changes to the games narrative and scenario. (see bellow)
THE OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the game is to reach the end of the Grand Line, receive the treasure One Piece and make it back out of the Grand Line. Half way through the game however the player with the highest MARINE divided by PIRATE points will be anointed a Shichibukai and must now hunt down the rest of the players.
Players accumulate PIRATE and MARINE points based on what mission they complete. EX: Rescuing the princess on Arabasta will net a player 2 MARINE points while stealing the gold on Skpiea will give the player 2 PIRATE points. OR a mission like Defeat the local pirate could give you 1 PIRATE and 1 MARINE. Beating some missions will also allow you to collect other characters and build your crew.
COMBAT: Combat in the game is simple. You add up your total HP, ATTACK, and DEFENSE of all of your crew plus dice rolls. For example a player has LUFFY with 10 HP and NAMI with 5 HP the player has 15HP plus the dice roll (1-6). If a player attacks and the defender has a lower DEFENSE than the attackers ATTACK then the difference comes out of HP. Ex: player 1 has 10 ATK player 2 has 8 DEF. Player 1 rolls a 6 and player 2 rolls a 2 then player 2 looses 6 HP (10+6=16 > 8+2=10)
If a player wins combat then he can draw one card from the looser. If combat ends in a draw then both characters must discard a card. If a loser can not give up a card then they must loose a character. Once out of characters a player is out of the game. (this is only for player versus player) Players are not eliminated when loosing a character due to failing a mission or a card. Only Shichibukai can eliminate players this way. All other scenarios result in loosing a turn.
The DVDs and online access codes:
Although the game can be played without them the DVDs will allow the player to have a scenarios play out for them that will change the game at random points. Players will play the game until a character on the DVD starts talking to the players. The players must stop and do what the One Piece characters say or do. Example:
Luffy causes the crew to become lost by doing something stupid. Nami tells the players "We are lost at sea. Discard your cards and re draw."
The online access codes will allow buyers access to the website and download additional scenarios to keep gameplay fresh.
