Design Criteria:
  • Allow players to experience  One Piece in a new and original  game.
  • Have the play choice their own path with the games narrative.
  • Gameplay should be simple enough for anyone to pick up and play but deep enough for multiple plays.

Most One Piece video games tend to favor the action and adventure genres.

With my video game design I decided to choose the exact opposite,

Introducing: ONE PIECE THE DATING SIM

The goal of the One Piece dating sim game is to swoon your way to becoming King of the Pirates!

Starting the game:

On the basic level the game is a simple point and click adventure game.

You start the game off by picking a gender to play as. From there you will build what your character looks like and their stats.

The stats include STR (strength) DEX (Dexterity) and INT (intelligence) AGI (agility) CHR (charisma)
These stats will help determine how your character will preform both in and out of combat as well as what skills, traits, and powers you can use throughout the adventure.

Playing the game:

First off the game does not follow the show's plot. Instead the game takes place in a modern day high school. However, all the characters still retain their personalities, likeness, traits, ambitions and goals. This done to capture the comedic feel of the show without copying and pasting the plot in yet another game.

Through out the game you will encounter all the character in their day to day lives. The goal is to get one (or all if your good) of the characters to fall in love with you on your quest. This is done by winning over the characters by displaying traits and actions that they approve of. Some characters may approve or disapprove of the choices and actions you take.

This ties into the game's narrative in that you can choose to overcome the obstacle by making different choices. For example, in the show, Luffy solves most problems by fighting. In this game it may become more advantageous to use cunning or wit to solve a puzzle or problem. You could talk your way out of a fight or, better yet, convince another character to do your bidding and solve the problem for you.

This ties into the core mechanic of Allies and Rivals that the game would offer. You wont be able to convince  everyone you come across in the game (you may not want to either). But what you can do is turn them into friends and allies to call upon during puzzles, conversations, and combat.

On the other hand Rivals will be determined on which character you pursue in the love story. The rivals job will be to sabotage your relationship and hinder your progress.

Winning (or Losing) the game:

The ending of the game comes at the conclusion of the story where your choices will determine if you become The Pirate King and if the relationship you chose succeeds or not. The game will support multiple ending and lots of branching stories so that you can reach the end many different ways.
